In mid 2012 residents made a successful submission to the Owner’s Corporation for a herb and vegetable garden to be established. The area selected was on the podium level in the private residential garden area of C and D Towers, where space was allocated behind Relish Cafe. Funds were supplied through its managing agents for our gardener to build two raised garden beds. Further funds were in the form of donations from the social residential community to establish barrels, soil and plants. More recently we have installed a tap and a watering system and further maintenance is identified on a needs basis.
The main philosophy of the garden is for our residential community to enjoy a range of perennial and seasonal crops of vegetables and herbs that are grown bio-organically. Some plantings have been more successful than others, and getting used to the aspect, wind, amount of sunlight etc. has helped make more informed decisions on what to plant each year.
Many members of the community have enjoyed the garden and its harvest. Others enjoy taking their friends and family for a visit. A volunteer committee works in conjunction with the building manager and head gardener of the property on its maintenance and plantings.
